Farfield Mill

Under the guidance of Gillard Associates the mill has been sensitively restored and converted, and acts as a focus for the local community with heritage displays and exhibitions, including the last working demonstration textile mill in Cumbria. It provides multi purpose rooms for dance and drama, conference facilities, and studio space for a wide variety of artisans and artists. Visitor facilities are an important part of the centre, and a thriving restaurant business is now well established. The project is a good example of recycling existing buildings for new use; there is an emphasis on sustainable heating and lighting using the existing water turbine alongside a biomass CHP system.
